The Exhibition by Rockband 1 is a new Virtual Reality project which invites visitors to walk through a series of rooms inside a virtual gallery suspended in infinite space. The gallery has seen better days but was once part of a compendium of all known things and events. The rooms of the exhibition contain interactive video art installations, dioramas, AI-generated AI-critical images, clay sculptures with internal landscapes and 3D scanned environments emerging from 2D films. Throughout The Exhibition, the familiar and expected are progressively removed. Positioned as a sincere portrayal of why VR struggles to imitate reality in essence, The Exhibition engages with fears relating to an increasingly digital or virtual world. The Exhibition also explores ways of presenting multimedia work by artists and multidisciplinary approaches through VR and Game Engines. It reimagines VR not as a “reality substitute” but as a space to question why we seek one.
